Brand Identity Design Process
As a designer I am highly collaborative. The relationship between client and designer involves a lot of communication and feedback from both sides. I want to make sure that there are no surprises along the way and that you are getting exactly what you need. My process follows the four steps outlined below.
01. Project Planning & Familiarization
During the project planning and familiarization phase, we meet to go over your goals, expectations, wants, and needs as a company. This helps get a feel for your brand and an idea of where it should go visually. A big part of discovery (project planning) is research. All factors must be considered from who your competitors are (and how you can stand out from them), to who your audience is (who you want to reach and how best to reach them), to any specific creative considerations or limitations there may be. From the meeting and initial research, we are able to develop a strategy for how to move forward and outline the information covered in a Creative Brief.
03. Production & Implementation
The production and implementation phase is about refining the ideas chosen during concept development, bringing them towards a cleaner final design. Any requested revisions are implemented at this phase. This also includes designing agreed-upon collateral, brand guidelines, digital materials, etc.
02. Concept Development
After a brief is written and approved by you (the client), we can begin putting together a moodboard (a collection of images) to help brainstorm a visual direction for your brand identity. We take all of the research and moodboarding done to date and begin sketching out some ideas for your brand identity and collateral. Often a couple of ideas are presented and you (the client) choose a final direction to be developed further.
04. Quality Control & Supervision
After the design is complete it’s time to see it being used in context. This means making sure all files are set up for print and web use, are delivered to you (the client), and sent to print (if necessary). I provide support in making sure print materials are selected, developers get what they need, and our vision for the designs is executed.
